Adult Formation

EducationHere lies the heart of the steward’s personal response as a disciple—to share what one has received and to share with a generous, grateful and loving heart. Inherent within each individual is the need to give, to move from selfishness to selflessness. This formation is a life long journey of conversion. Life long formation is a formidable task, involving education of the mind and conversion of the heart for “all” ages.

Adult Faith Enrichment/Education

Small groups meet to discuss various Catholic Books (Beautiful Mercy or Rediscovering Jesus, etc.) to deepen our faith. A Marian devotion group meets too.  You can pick the adult education that will help you strengthen your faith.

Bible Study and Faith Sharing

Anyone high school age or older is invited to join one of the bible study groups at Holy Cross Parish.  We use different bible studies and books to strengthen our faith and increase our knowledge of the Bible.  A past bible study has been “Great Adventures” series with question/answer workbooks and DVDs to go along with each study.  Studies vary in week length and cost.  Watch the bulletin for more information.

Cursillo

Cursillo in Christianity is an international movement with a large presence in the Wichita Diocese and at Holy Cross. The goal of the Cursillo Movement is to light a fire in the hearts of Catholic Christians to truly live their faith in every aspect of their lives and to be a light to others. The fire is lit in a three-day retreat or “short course” at the Spiritual Live Center in Wichita. (Cursillo, pronounced kur-see-yo, is the Spanish word meaning “short course”.) Two men’s weekends and two women’s weekends are held each year.
The fire is kept burning through weekly meetings of “friendship groups” and monthly gatherings of “Cursillistas” (those who have made the weekend retreat) from all three Hutchinson parishes.”

Christian Initiation (RCIA)

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) prepares adults to enter the Catholic Church through the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist). It is a process of discernment and about building a relationship over time with both God and the Catholic community. Participation is open to the non-baptized, baptized Christians of other denominations, and baptized Catholics who wish to be confirmed and receive the Eucharist.
Catechesis meetings begin in August. At Easter Vigil, the catechumens and candidates receive the sacraments and are welcomed fully into the Church.
Volunteers are needed to serve in a wide variety of ways. Members of the parish are needed to sponsor each person going through the program and to introduce them to the Parish life. We also need volunteers to serve on the team, to make presentations, to lead Gospel Reflection, or to provide snacks on an RCIA night. Volunteers are also needed for the Children’s program.

Theology on Tap

Are you interested in learning more about your faith? Would you like to discuss faith topics relevant to your experiences? Do you want to meet other people who share these common interests? Then Theology on Tap is for you!  Theology on Tap is a great opportunity for Catholic adults to meet in a comfortable setting to explore our faith and how it affects our lives.
Join us on the fourth Tuesday of the month (January through October) at Mi Tierra, 700 East 4th, Hutchinson. Come for food and fellowship at 7pm, with the talk starting at 7:30pm.
“Theology on Tap is a great way to connect with friends – we don’t often spend a lot of time thinking or talking about our spiritual lives!”

Virtus Training

The Diocesan VIRTUS program is mandatory for all adults who have contact with children at Holy Cross or throughout the Wichita Diocese. This awareness program focuses on child sexual abuse and how program participants can provide assistance in keeping our children safe. Trainers and assistants provide for the setup, administration and facilitation of the monthly programs held at Holy Cross Catholic School.
